• Last weekend was the opening of deer season (gun) here in Kentucky and I had the opportunity to join one of my closest friends, Billy McGee, for this event in an area renowned for its abundance of large healthy deer. We would be hunting in McGee’s home county of Livingston in Western Kentucky. This is an annual pilgrimage that I have taken for more than 20 years and the adventures are always a little different. McGee is a lawyer from Smithland, KY, and has evolved into quite the hunting guide...

  • Hopefully we all have opportunities to see our kids grow beyond our own skills and experiences. I had that opportunity this past weekend. I went bow hunting with my 16 year old son, Jacob. He used a deer stand that he and I built, from a design that he created (he wanted to be able to walk completely around a tree from an elevated position). The stand was built at a site that he had selected based upon deer traffic patterns he learned from reviewing photos from trail cameras he had positioned in weeks prior. At...

  • A few days ago, I had a wonderful opportunity to meet with and demonstrate Reel Cool Fishing Bottles to Ken and Amanda Locke out at Kadak Survival Supply in Florence, Kentucky. The Lockes are "Preppers" with a survivalist supply retail store online and have recently opened up a bricks-and-mortar location. They were hugely excited to come across our bottles, as they see a large market within the "Prepper" and survivalist community. I hadn't really thought about that, but it makes sense. If you are preparing to one day need to move fast...

  • What a weekend!  I had an opportunity to join a friend of mine for a weekend of boating on Norris Lake in Tennessee. Fortunately, we were also able to sneak in a morning of serious fishing with a local striper legend, the Honorable Ezell Cox. Ezell (love that name!) was in the Marine Corps during the late 60's thru early 70's and later served as the Mayor of Tazewell, Tennessee. Now retired from normal and not so normal jobs, he part-times as a Striper fishing guide on Norris Lake and other...

  • Good times last Saturday at the Boone County (Kentucky) Fairgrounds! The "Fishing Frenzy" sponsored by Boone County Parks was the official kickoff for the Boone County Fair. It was a free event for kids 15 years old and younger, and boy, did the Parks Department team allow the kids an opportunity for a "reel" good time. This "catch and release" event featured a freshly stocked lake with huge, hungry catfish.  The largest I saw measured about 36 inches long and was landed by a young lady not much longer. She...

  • I had the pleasure of demonstrating the Reel Cool Fishing Bottle live on Fox19's morning news program Thursday in Cincinnati. Host Sheila Gray made me feel right at home, and really took a liking to the product. Ironically, she also showed me up in the casting demo, tossing her lure several feet farther than I did. We've heard a lot of good feedback on the show, and our website got very busy afterward. We sure hope our new customers enjoy their bottles! Stay COOL!
