• Steve Trauger, the Recreation Director for the Kenton County Parks and Recreation Department in Kentucky, invited us to return to where we debuted Reel Cool® Fishing Bottles® a couple of years ago. We had as much fun this time as we did then. The public was invited to a local park on June 6 for a kid focused "fishing derby." Prizes were awarded to young anglers who caught the largest of a variety of species in the action packed Saturday morning event. We had the opportunity to demonstrate and educate the audience...

  • I was invited to participate in the destination wedding of two of my best friends this spring. The event was strategically scheduled during our local school's Spring Break as this wedding was the blending of two families with kids in school. Fortunately for me and my family, the destination was Key Largo, Florida, giving us an outstanding opportunity to do a variety of fishing. My wife kept reminding me that we were going to a wedding and were "not going on one of your fishing trips!"  That just put more pressure...

  • The following is a guest blog by Matt's fellow Assistant Scoutmaster Tim Kneale. The first thing I need everyone to know is that this post has nothing to do with: If you were just looking for a quick hair metal fix, I'm so sorry. My family and I went to Cocoa Beach, Florida this year for spring break. This area is noted for perhaps the best surf on the East Coast, and the entire family was hoping to indulge our passion for bodysurfing - or even real surfing if the...

  • We spotted a couple more marlin and were able to throw a few baits in their direction but alas, it was not to be. I did however, manage to hook up with a good-sized bonito which gave me good practice working the "drag" system with the bottle. Essentially, the best way I have found to work the "drag" with the bottle is to use my left index finger to put pressure on the line as I point the bottom of the bottle towards the fish as it makes a run. The...

  • Our team went on a field trip last week to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico - one of the two locations for the birth of the idea for “Fishing Bottles”. Our mission was to catch some fish in the Pacific and get some good videos of extreme fishing. The crew of our first boat looked at us like we were “loco” when we said we planned to catch potential monsters with bottles. However, after a few quick successful catches of Bonita and Spanish Mackerel, the Captain and mate were quick to...

  • Good times for the Reel Cool crew in Cabo San Lucas, at the southern tip of Baja California in Mexico. We have a lot to post, but our connection is slow and so for today we'll leave you with one shot of Matt holding one of the many fish hauled in from the Pacific Ocean with our Reel Cool Fishing Bottles... Adios, Reel Cool
